31st Operations Group Change of Command -2023 -
The 31st Operations Group Change of Command Ceremony took place Tuesday morning 30 May 2023 at Hangar 1 of the Aeronautica Militare Airport of Aviano, Italy, home base of the 31st Fighter Wing, the only permanently assigned U.S. Air Forces in Europe & Air Forces Africa fighter aircraft wing in NATO’s Southern Region.
The Colonel Kevin M. Crofton relinquished command to the Presiding Officer, Brigadier General Tad D. Clark, 31st Fighter Wing Commander, who assigned the command of the 31st Operations Group to Colonel William D. Lutmer.
The Change of Command Ceremony had the following sequence of Events :

Col. Lutmer is a graduate of the Ohio State University and received his commission through Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. Col. Lutmer is a command pilot with over 2,600 flight hours in F-16. He has four combat deployments supporting Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve. Col. Lutmer has held a variety of flying positions to include F-16 fighter squadron commander, F-16 instructor pilot, flight examiner, weapons officer and United States Air Force Weapons School Instructor. Prior to this assignment, Colonel Lutmer was the Future Operations Division Chief for the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
Colonel William D. Lutmer is the new Commander of the 31st Operations Group, 31st Fighter Wing, Aviano AB. The Operations Group consists of eight squadrons that continually support operations and exercises across three Combatant Commands. The wide-ranging operational capabilities are brought by Airmen from the 31st Operations Support Squadron, 56th and 57th Rescue Squadrons, 717th and 731st Expeditionary Attack Squadrons, 510th and 555th Fighter Squadron, and the 606th Air Control Squadron.

La Cerimonia di Cambio di Comando del 31st Operations Group ha avuto luogo martedì mattina 30 Maggio 2023 presso l’Hangar 1 dell’Aeroporto Pagliano e Gori dell’Aeronautica Militare ad Aviano, Italia, sede del 31st Fighter Wing, il solo Wing di caccia-bombardieri della U.S. Air Forces in Europe & Air Forces Africa assegnato alla Regione Sud della NATO.
Il Colonnello Kevin M. Crofton ha restituito il comando all’ufficiale che ha presieduto la Cerimonia, il Brigadiere Generale Tad D. Clark, Comandante del 31st Fighter Wing, il quale ha consegnato il Comando del 31st Operations Group al Colonnello William D. Lutmer.
La Cerimonia di Cambio di Comando ha avuto la seguente sequenza di eventi:

Il Colonnello Lutmer è diplomato alla Ohio State University e ha ricevuto la propria “commission” attraverso l’Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. Il Col. Lutmer è comandnate pilota con più di 2600 ore di volo su F-16. Ha effettuato quattro schieramenti in supporto alle Operazioni Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom e Inherent Resolve. Il Colonnello Lutmer ha ricoperto numerosi incarichi che includono comando di squadrone di F-16, istruttore di volo di F-16, esaminatore di volo, ufficiale agli armamenti e istruttore presso la United State Air Force Weapons School. Prima dell’attuale assegnazione ad Aviano, ha ricoperto l’incarico di Future Operations Division Chief presso il North American Aerospace Defense Command.
Il Colonnello Lutmer è il nuovo Comandante del 31st Operations Group, 31st Fighter Wing, Aviano AB. Il Gruppo Operazioni considte di otto squadroni che continuamente supportano operazioni e addestramento in tre differenti Combatant Commands. Le capacità operative a così ampio raggio del Gruppo Operazioni sono sotenute dagli Aviatori del 31st Operations Support Squadron, 56th e 57th Rescue Squadrons, 717th e 731st Expeditionary Attack Squadrons, 510th e 555th Fighter Squadron, e dal 606th Air Control Squadron.
