56th Rescue Squadron’s new HH-60W (Whiskey)
The 56th Rescue Squadron (56th RQS) was part of the 31st Fighter Wing (31st FW) based in Aviano AB, introduced recently, replacing the veteran HH-60G (Golf) "Pave Hawk", the new HH-60W (Whiskey) "Jolly Green II" search and rescue helicopter It resembles its predecessor, but instead it is a new machine, more performing and equipped glass cockpit displays. The first flight was made at Aviano AB in the January 2025 and being a new machine, it needs a intense training cycle to make crews "Combat Ready". Part of the training is carried out in a training range, an environment already known by the crews, where the conditions are optimal to carry out the activity primary of the 56th RQS, Combat SAR (Search and Rescue). This activity has been documented with a series of typical and choreographic photos representing some scenarios and moments carried out in this environment, which lends itself well to action. Worthy of note are some photos that document at the time of landing and raise a cloud of dust, which brings to mind the characteristics activities carried out in Middle eastern countries and environments. Not to forget the men of the 57th Rescue Squadron (57th RQS) "Guardian Angels" who are Search and Rescue paratroopers (Pararescueman) who operate in symbiosis with the HH-60W crews and who helicopters are being transported to the area interested in Search and Rescue in Combat, for the eventual recover downed pilots behind enemy lines or other related needs special missions or simply in peacetime are involved in recovering injured, even in the mountains, thus collaborating in civilian rescue activities.

56th Rescue Squadron’s new HH-60W (Whiskey)
Il 56th Rescue Squadron (56th RQS) facente parte del 31st Fighter Wing (31st FW) con base ad Aviano AB, ha introdotto recentemente , in sostituzione del veterano HH-60G (Golf) “Pave Hawk”, il nuovo elicottero da ricerca e soccorso HH-60W (Whiskey) “Jolly Green II” che assomiglia al predecessore, ma invece e’ una nuova macchina, piu’ prestante e dotato di glass cockpit display. Il primo volo è stato effettuato all’ Aviano AB nello scorso Gennaio 2025 ed essendo appunto una nuova macchina, necessita di un’ intenso ciclo di addestramento per rendere gli equipaggi “Combat Ready”. Parte dell’ addestramento viene svolto in un poligono, un’ ambiente già conosciuto dagli equipaggi, dove le condizioni sono ottimali per svolgere l’ attività primaria del 56th RQS, la Ricerca e Soccorso in zona di Combattimento (Combat SAR). Tale attività è stata documentata con una serie di tipiche e coreografiche foto che rappresentano alcuni scenari e momenti svolti in questo ambiente, che ben si presta all’ azione. Degne di nota sono alcune foto che documentano nel momento dell’ atterraggio e sollevano una nube di polvere, che fa venire alla mente le caratteristiche attività svolte in paesi e ambienti mediorientali. Da non dimenticare gli uomini del 57th Rescue Squadron (57th RQS) “Guardian Angels” che sono i paracadutisti di Ricerca e Soccorso (Pararescueman) che operano in simbiosi con gli equipaggi degli HH-60W e che vengono trasportati degli elicotteri nella zona interessata alla Ricerca e Soccorso in Combattimento, per eventualmente recuperare Piloti abbattuti dietro le linee nemiche od altre necessità legate a missioni speciali o semplicemente in tempo di pace vengono coinvolti nel recuperare feriti, anche in montagna, collaborando così alle attività di soccorso civili.
