FINI FLIGHT of Brigadier General Tad D. Clark
The FINI FLIGHT of Brigadier General Tad D. Clark has been taken place at Aviano AB Wednesday July 2, 2025, after three intense and demanding years as 31st Fighter Wing Commander, flying the “AV” tail coded, serial 89-2009, F-16CM “Viper” flaship of the 31st Fighter Wing.
Once the F-16CM had landed and taxied towards the apron south, he was welcomed with a water salute of the Aviano AB firefighters shooting water over the aircraft forming an arch. After leaving the cockpit, even before touching down, General Clark was taken by some pilots to tie him up and allow his family to shower him with good prosecco.
Some representative of Aviano AB Aviation Friends Group also had the pleasure to attend the event and were able to salute General Clark, as well as, to thank him of the strong friendship always shown to the Group over these three years.
The Fini Flight event is the last flight of a commander before relinquishing the command to the incoming new one. It’s a longstanding tradition in the Air Force and it represents one peculiar way to recognize the very best amongst the Air Force’s ranks. With the Vietnam War we can find the first documents of Fini Fligth of pilots and aircrew who celebrated the completation of the hundredth missions in the TDY.

Il VOLO FINI del Generale di Brigata Tad D. Clark si è svolto presso la base di Aviano mercoledì 2 luglio 2025, dopo tre intensi e impegnativi anni al comando del 31sy Fighter Wing, volando l'F-16CM "Viper" codice di coda "AV", matricola 89-2009, flagship del 31st Fighter Wing.
Una volta che l'F-16CM è atterrato e ha rullato verso il piazzale sud, è stato accolto con un saluto a pioggia dai vigili del fuoco della base di Aviano che hanno sparato acqua sopra l'aereo formando un arco. Dopo essere uscito dalla cabina di pilotaggio, ancor prima di toccare terra, il Generale Clark è stato afferrato da alcuni piloti per legarlo e permettere alla sua famiglia di innaffiarlo con del buon prosecco.
Anche alcuni rappresentanti dell'Aviano AB Aviation Friends Group hanno avuto il piacere di partecipare all'evento e hanno potuto salutare il Generale Clark, ringraziandolo per la forte amicizia che ha sempre dimostrato al Gruppo in questi tre anni.
Il FINI FLIGHT è l'ultimo volo di un comandante prima di cedere il comando al nuovo ufficiale subentrante. È una tradizione di lunga data nella U.S. Air Force e rappresenta un modo peculiare per riconoscere i migliori tra i propri ranghi. Con la guerra del Vietnam troviamo numerosi documenti relativi al FINI FLIGHT, con piloti ed equipaggi che celebravano il completamento della centesima missione effettuata durante il periodo di TDY.
