510th Fighter Squadron Change of Command
The 510th Fighter Squadron Change of Command Ceremony took place in Sierra Loop at Aviano AB, Thursday morning March 30, 2017.  Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey M. Montgomery relinquished command to Colonel Craig M. Hollis, 31st Operations Group Commander , and Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin S. Freeborn assumed command of the “Buzzards” unit from Colonel Hollis. During last operational deployment of the Buzzards, Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin S. Freeborn served as 510th Fighter Squadron’s Director of Operations at Camp Lemonier, Djibouti, and prior he was 22nd Expeditionary Fighter Squadron’s Weapons Officer at Joint Base Balad, Iraq. He earned his wings as a distinguished graduate from Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training in 2002. After two operational assignments in Pacific Air Force units, Lieutenant Colonel Freeborn was distinguished graduate from USAF Weapons School . Following an operational assignment that included the 2009 USAFE Fighter Aviator of the Year, he returned to 16th Weapons Squadron as instructor, where he was named the 2013 Boots Blesse Award winner for  top USAFWS Instructor. Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin S. Freeborn is Senior Pilot with more than 1500 flying hours in F-16C/D, T-38 and T-37 aircraft, including  150 combat hours.
