23A Festa dell' Amicizia Italo/Americana - 2024 - 23th Italian/American Friendship Festival

La Festa dell’Amicizia Italo-Americana è stata quest’anno ospitata per la prima volta a Cordenons, uno dei Comuni nelle vicinanze dell’Aeroporto della Aeronautica Militare di Aviano, presso il quale dal 1994 risiede stabilmente il 31st Fighter Wing, unica unità aerea della U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa a sud delle Alpi. La data è solitamente scelta in prossimità della ricorrenza dell’attentato terroristico alle torri gemelle, a New York, affinchè l’evento potesse assumere il doppio significato, di ricordo delle vittime dell’attentato terroristico del 11 settembre 2001 e di consolidamento dei vincoli di amicizia tra le comunità italiana ed americana. La Festa della Amicizia nasce su iniziativa dell’Associazione Comandanti Onorari di Squadrone proprio all’indomani dei tragici fatti del 11 settembre a New York e a Washington.
Sabato pomeriggio 14 settembre, in piazza della Vittoria ha avuto luogo la cerimonia celebrativa, che è iniziata con gli Inni Nazionali italiano e americano, l’alzabandiera e la deposizione di una corona d’alloro al monumento ai Caduti della 1° Guerra Mondiale, congiuntamente effettuata dai Vigili del Fuoco del Comando Provinciale di Pordenone e dai “Firefighters” americani del 31st Fighter Wing. E’ poi seguito Il saluto del Sindaco di Cordenons, e gli interventi del Comandante dell’Aeroporto di Aviano, Colonnello Pilota Salvatore La Luce, del Vice - Comandante del 31st Fighter Wing, Colonnello Beau E. Diers, e del Presidente dell’Associazione Comandanti Onorari di Squadrone, Dott. Remigio Villanova, che hanno sottolineato come i due temi, del ricordo e della amicizia, siano stati entrambi fondamentali nel consolidamento dei legami tra le comunità italiana ed americana nel corso di questi anni.
Presso gli edifici del Centro Culturale Aldo Moro, il Comando Aeroporto di Aviano della Aeronautica Militare, con la collaborazione delle associazioni Aviano AB Aviation Friends Group e Comandanti Onorari di Squadrone del 31st Fighter Wing, ha allestito la mostra fotografica dedicata ai 100 ANNI DELLA AERONAUTICA MILITARE e ai 30 ANNI della presenza del 31st Fighter Wing ad Aviano. La mostra è rimasta aperta e visitabile nell’arco della settimana successiva.

The Italian-American Friendship Festival was this year hosted by the Municipality of Cordenons for the first time, one of the municipalities bordering the Aviano Air Base of the Aeronautica Militare, which hosts the 31st Fighter Wing, the only air unit of the US Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa at south of the Alps. The date is usually chosen near the recurrence of the terrorist attack to the twin towers, in New York, so that the event can take on a double meaning, as a remembrance of the victims of the terrorist attack of 11 September 2001 and the consolidation the bonds of friendship between the Italian and American communities. The Friendship Day was born on the initiative of the Honorary Squadron Commanders Association right after the tragic events of 11 September, in New York and Washington.
On Saturday afternoon 14 September, in Piazza della Vittoria, the celebratory ceremony took place, which began with the Italian and American National Anthems, the raising of the flag and the laying of a laurel wreath at the 1st World War Memorial, jointly carried out by the Vigili del Fuoco of the Comando Provinciale in Pordenone and by the American "Firefighters" of the 31st Fighter Wing. Then followed the greeting of the Mayor of Cordenons, and the speeches of the Aviano Airport Commander, Colonel Salvatore La Luce, the 31st Fighter Wing Vice-Commander, Colonel Beau E. Diers, and the President of the Association of Honorary Squadron Commanders, Dot. Remigio Villanova, who underlined how the two themes, memory and friendship, have both been fundamental in consolidating the bonds between the Italian and American communities over the years.
A photographic exhibition dedicated to the “100 YEARS of the AERONAUTICA MILITARE” and “30 YEARS of the 31st FIGHTER WING at AVIANO AB, has been set up at the Aldo Moro Cultural Building, by the Comando Aeroporto of Aviano of the Aeronautica Militare, with the collaboration of the Aviano AB Aviation Friends Group and 31st Fighter Wing Honorary Squadron Commanders Association. The exibition remained open and visitable throughout all the following week.
