NATO " Tiger Meet "  " Arctic Tiger "  -  2012

Ritorna

The last NATO Tiger Meet edition took place from 29th of May to 8th of June at the Royal Norwegian Air Force Station of Ørland , situated near Trondhaim, the third most populated city of Norway and northern of the main Norwegian big cities. Host and organizer unit has been 338 Squadron which flies the F-16AM and F-16BM Fighting Falcons. The 2012 event was scheduled at Monte Real, home base of the Portuguese Air Force Esquadra 301, but heavy economic situation in the Portugal and consequent cut in the defence budget caused switching of the organization to a different unit in the Tiger Association. The 338 Skvadron was ready to obtain the “green light” of the Norwegian Air Force Command to repeat again the 2007 experience, when first time they set up the annual meeting of the tiger units  in Norway. The NATO Tiger Meet is an exercise between units sporting a badge displaying a tiger or a big cat family. All through the meeting pilots have scheduled to fly single sorties or in a batch including a/c from different participating units; more some competitions have carried out by flying and ground personnel under different operative and folk sides. A different trophy has awarded to each competition but the Silver Tiger Trophy is the most desirable one. It awards the overall best squadron in the Tiger Meet event. The 2012 winner has been Belgian Air Force 31° Sqn from Kleine Brogel. That has been the 8th win in its existence. Unfortunately this edition has seen the absence of several units from the South Europe Air Forces.
