(Foto velivoli Silvano Mainini e K.Tokunaga/ItAF)

Meeting with Mr. Silvano Mainini and Marshal Marco Bovino

On the evening of Friday 24 February 2023, Mr. Silvano Mainini and Italian Air Force Marshal Marco Bovino were guests at the AAFG headquarters to explore the issue of special colors in the Air Force. More than twenty years of activity and more than forty liveries applied to the aircrafts on the occasion of anniversaries and ceremonies characterized the – respectable – curriculum vitae of the guests.
The presentation on 15 February of the special livery applied on the AM-X aircraft by the two guests to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the 103rd Squadron at Istrana Air Base was the starting point of the meeting in question.
The livery with the bright colors that the Armed Forces aircrafts "wear" in particular circumstances is well known to the numerous enthusiasts who assiduously frequent airports' spotting points. However, an element that is undoubtedly little known is the work required for the realization of these liveries. The guests, therefore, shared the secrets and curiosities of this art with non-experts, also answering the many questions from the public. Among those present, there was a delegation of a nr. 62 Frecce Tricolori Club, from Roveredo in Piano, PN. During the evening, a selection of the numerous helmets painted over more than thirty years of activity by Mr. Mainini was also shown.
Finally, the presence of Lt. Col. Mario Marson, former Air Force pilot and
Chief of Planning and Operations Section of the "Indians" at Istrana Air Base during the first years of activity of the two guests, made it possible, through various anecdotes, to get to know the spirit that animated the Squadron in the early 2000s.

The delivery of the AAFG calendars to the guests and a commemorative print of the anniversary mentioned above concluded the evening.
Below is a selection of the commemorative liveries made by the two guests over the decades and some shots of the evening. (Photo by Silvano Mainini and K.Tokunaga/ItAF)
