L'AAFG In Visita Al 56th RQS - 2019

Grazie alla preziosa collaborazione del PAO e dei Comandi interessati, in data 10 dicembre 2019 è stato possibile per i soci dell’Aviano AB Aviation Friends Group, compiere una visita al 56th Rescue Squadron basato ad Aviano.   Il 56th RQS è attualmente parte del 31th FW, ed opera elicotteri HH-60/G PAVE HAWK la cui missione è la ricerca ed il soccorso di personale militare in difficoltà o disperso, se necessario anche al di la’ della linea del fronte ed in presenza di reazione avversaria: per questo motivo gli HH-60/G sono dotati delle più avanzate dotazioni elettroniche per la comunicazione e la navigazione a bassissima quota, onde sfuggire alla localizzazione avversaria, anche di notte e con cattivo tempo; la presenza di questi apparati è chiaramente denunciata dalle numerose protuberanze presenti sul muso degli elicotteri. Per incrementare la durata della ricerca e la distanza alla quale è possibile condurla gli HH-60/G sono dotati di un grosso serbatoio supplementare installato nel vano di carico in posizione baricentrica, oltre che di una sonda per il rifornimento in volo, mentre per il contrasto alla reazione nemica possono montare diverse combinazioni di armamento.  Dopo aver avuto l’opportunità di osservare e fotografare un esemplare ricoverato in Hangar per manutenzione, una volta usciti sul piazzale antistante, i soci hanno potuto assistere alle operazioni pre-volo di altri due HH-60, che gli specialisti stavano “configurando” prima di effettuare una missione di addestramento senza armamento, dando quindi l’opportunità di osservare le procedure di preparazione delle altre attrezzature necessarie alla missione.  Completate le ispezioni e le procedure di approntamento per la missione, è seguita la messa in moto degli elicotteri, seguito dalla necessaria attesa della clearance di decollo, ritardata dalla necessità di consentire l’atterraggio a diversi F-16 del 31st Fighter Wing, di rientro dalle loro missioni; infine i due esemplari hanno rullato fino al raccordo designato per il decollo, per poi alzarsi in volo.  Come nota di colore è da rilevare come ogni esemplare del 56th RS porti dipinti sul muso un vistoso paio di baffi, di foggia diversa per ogni esemplare.

Thanks to the precious cooperation of the PAO and the Commands concerned, on 10 December 2019 it was possible for the members of the Aviano AB Aviation Friends Group to visit the 56th Rescue Squadron based in Aviano.  The 56th RQS is currently part of the 31st FW, and operates HH-60/G PAVE HAWK helicopters whose mission is the search and rescue of military personnel in trouble or missing, if necessary also beyond the front line and in the presence of an enemy reaction: for these reason the HH-60/G are equipped with the most advanced electronic equipment for communication and navigation at very low altitudes, in order to escape the opposing localization, even at night and in bad weather. The presence of these equipment is clearly denounced by the numerous bumps present on the nose of the helicopters. To increase the duration of the search and the distance at which it can be carried, the HH-60/G are equipped with a large additional tank installed in the cargo compartment in a baricentric position, as well as a probe for in-flight refueling, while for the contrast to the enemy reaction can mount different combinations of armament.  After having the opportunity to observe and photograph a specimen recovered in Hangar for maintenance, once they went out on the front yard, the members could see the pre-flight operations of two other HH-60s, which specialists were "configuring " before carrying out a training mission without armament, thus giving the opportunity to observe the procedures as well as the preparation of the other equipment necessary for the mission.  After the mission inspections and preparation procedures, the helicopters engine was turned on, followed by the necessary wait for the take-off clearance, delayed by the need to let the landing of several F-16s of the 31st Fighter Wing, returning from their missions;  Finally, the two models rolled up to the designated siding for take-off, and then becoming airborn.  It is interesting to note every single helicopter of the 56th RS squadron display painted on the nose a conspicuous pair of moustaches, different in shape for each specimen.
